l have been a part of a few successful wildlife rescues and educate people on wildlife and environmental issues. We have helped in issues to save wetlands, woodlands etc.to save the precious life within. It is well worth the effort. We can all learn to live and work together. Education is the key. In 2011 I won an education award from Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority for the work and photography I do. Habitat is fast disappearing and with it, many species are also declining in numbers. So many species can actually tell us the health of our environment and alert us to problems we need to know about. They all need to be protected.

Feeding time for the wolves

My son & I went for a visit to the Haliburton Forest Wolf Center Sunday. What a beautiful day. We got there just after the wolves had been fed. A bit messy I guess you could say. But it was very interesting to watch them interacting and listening to the incredible sound effects with the mic they have outside. It sure picks up a lot of interesting sounds effects. The male Fang is their new alpha male since the vandals released 4 of the wolves New Years Eve in 2012. Not a good outcome. What a horrible thing to do. I cant even imagine why anyone would do such a thing. And I hope these people are caught and dealt with harshly. Two of the wolves were shot. They tried to save one but she had lost to much blood when they found her. The other 2 never were located so are presumed dead. These animals were born in captivity. In the wild a wolves parents teach it how to hunt and how to survive. In captivity they get fed. Very little human contact is given here. It is as natural as it can be for them. But they don't hunt. These people who care for them went through a terrible time with this and are still dealing with their losses. The wolf pack also went through a hard time. You can go to www.haliburtonforest.com to find out more and see the wolves. A great place to go spend a few hours and learn about wolves. And lots more to do there as well. As you can see spring is in the air. Fang after filling his belly wanted to play and roll around in the snow. The girls including the alpha female Luna have finally accepted him and the pack is getting somewhat back to normal.  pair of ravens got into the left overs. It really was amazing. What a great day!
