Beautiful blonde squirrel 3/14/11
This morning while at my computer, I looked out the window. This golden tail was shinning in the sunshine out at the bottom of my big maple tree. I had to take a double look. I have never seen this squirrel before. I thought I had seen them all. I hurried and got my camera with the 500 mm lens on it and went outside slowly. I didn't want to scare this little guy away. He went up the tree a bit and sat looking down at this strange looking person. "What was she doing" I took out some peanuts for him. Put them down at the base of the tree and walked slowly back to the house and stood there quietly. He came down and started looking for the food. He sort of looks like a cross between a red squirrel and a fox squirrel with those beautiful ears and that color. He was stunning to say the least. He was here about 40 min and then I had to go out. He was not here when I got back in the afternoon. He really stands out which worries me. But he also knew to run up the tree to saftey when he was unsure. Of coarse the neighborhood cats are out running the streets again causing me grief. My 3 get to birdwatch from behind closed doors and windows. They love it. They have a nice closed in porch to go out in when it gets warm enough. They are happy and healthy and don't mind at all. So I hope this little squirrel keeps safe in his beautiful blonde coat and I hope I see him again. It sure did brighten my day.

Hi,I am in Ontario Canada. This beautiful little thing showed up one day and let me get some shots of it. And i never saw it again. Not even in my walks around the point. Very strange. Usually squirrels here are here for years

i have seen a number of blonde squirrels in Gananoque, Ontario in past few years! they are truly beautiful - one was almost white!
This should make you all laugh. I have a form of colour-blindness called TRITANOPIA. Us folks see most of the world in reds, purples and bergundys. (Google it. It's a fun way to live.) Recently walking by the lake in Oakville, Ontario (near Toronto) with a normal-sighted friend, I pointed at a squirrel and asked him "What am I seeing, because that looks like a burgundy squirrel with an almost fuschia tail!" He is used to these questions from me, but that day, he too looked at the squirrel in amazement, and said "He kind of has a bright yellow tail, but I've never seen a squirrel that looks like that." People walking by thought we were both nuts, talking about yellow vs fuschia squirrels! So we went home, got on the Internet and learned about blonde squirrels. This was one of those moments we will never forget! There are times when colour blindness should be called colour enhancement!
