l have been a part of a few successful wildlife rescues and educate people on wildlife and environmental issues. We have helped in issues to save wetlands, woodlands etc.to save the precious life within. It is well worth the effort. We can all learn to live and work together. Education is the key. In 2011 I won an education award from Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority for the work and photography I do. Habitat is fast disappearing and with it, many species are also declining in numbers. So many species can actually tell us the health of our environment and alert us to problems we need to know about. They all need to be protected.

Baby red squirrels

Well I could not believe it when I came upon 3 baby red squirrels. They were having a grand time playing in a magnificent big old willow tree right by the lake. I also have 3 young very young but not this young gray squirrels at the house. 2 gray and 1 black. Lots of food around for them and lots of leaves for a nice warm nest as well. But what a surprise.

1st Snow November 8th 2013

November 8th we woke up to the first snow on the ground. Not a lot but oh was it pretty. Got the dog ready and off we went. The lake was booming with waterfowl of various kinds. A few loons one of which caught a very nice sized perch. Goldeneyes, common mergansers, mallards a few Canada geese, gulls and way out I heard long tail ducks.

It was very pretty and I couldn't refuse getting out there and snapping off photo after photos.

The lake was spectacular on the other side. The trees covered in fresh white snow and the smoke billowing out into the brisk air.

Ducks near the shore moseyed on out when I approached, Quite a number in close.
The other side of the lake, breath taking in my eyes.

Still some color around here. A touch of snow on top of that color was lovely.

A loon with a nice perch, were a few around and the fishing was good.
Wonderful clouds but stormy.

An immature male common merganser was paddling along right at the shore. Then he saw me and did an abrupt turn around and headed out chattering the whole way. Got a chuckle out of that one.
A common loon and some Canada geese near shore.

My dog Malcolm. Enjoying the snow but the dirt roads really did a number on him. Oh the dirt. He had fun. Me not so much!!!!!

Backyard beauty

I was lucky to have had a pair of these hermit thrushes in my trees right off my deck. I was unable to get the second one but this one was right out there for me. The more I took pictures the more curious it got. Beautiful birds.
My male red bellied woodpecker was so busy there for a couple days. This seed ring has been an amazing attractant of the birds around here. They are actually lining up for there chance at it.

 Blue jay
Chickadee also enjoying a quick snack under the dome. Below a downy and blue jay I put this umbrella hat up to keep the rain and weather off so I through less food away. Since all it has done for weeks it seems is rain here.

Haliburton Wolf Center

Just recently my son & I did a trip to the Haliburton Forest and wildlife reserve's wolf center. It was amazing. The wolves were right at the center's viewing station as feeding time was the next day. So they could smell the food and were getting ready for a feast. There are 5 wolves there. Fang is the new alpha male. 2 years old. Luna is the alpha female and her sister Maya. And the 2 other girls at 1 in a half are Maple and Molly. It was a trip we will surely make again. To sit in the viewing center and watch the wolves interacting was so peaceful. We got there later in the day and it started to rain and got dark. But the wolves were certainly co operative and sitting with them was a true pleasure.

A Day out

A day out with a friend turned out to be a pretty nice day. Calling for rain all day the day before. We changed our original plans. When we woke up to sunshine we decided we had to get out after all, and headed out in the Barrie and surrounding area and got some great shots. After a day of shooting we went home tired but satisfied. Highlights were the sandhill cranes and frisky horses in a field. Cloud formations were amazing and reflections breath taking. What a great day!!
