l have been a part of a few successful wildlife rescues and educate people on wildlife and environmental issues. We have helped in issues to save wetlands, woodlands etc.to save the precious life within. It is well worth the effort. We can all learn to live and work together. Education is the key. In 2011 I won an education award from Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority for the work and photography I do. Habitat is fast disappearing and with it, many species are also declining in numbers. So many species can actually tell us the health of our environment and alert us to problems we need to know about. They all need to be protected.

Red Headed Woodpeckers

Red Headed Woodpeckers

A few shots of my red headed woodpeckers in my backyard. They have been coming here since the year 2000. These are the off spring. The original pair never returned last year but instead I had 2 new birds. They are back again this year.

Red Headed Woodpecker Pair

My yard these days has just been a huge splash of color. The orioles, warblers tanagers and now the red headed woodpeckers. Both arrived the same day on the 11th. And today they were both here in my feeding area at the same time. It was wonderful. All these photos were taken through my kitchen window so as not to scare the birds away.

Scarlet tanager and red headed woodpecker

My red headed woodpecker pair both returned on the 11th of May. They called and chased each other around having a grand time. Did not come to feeders as yet. Thursday I had a real surprise of a pair of scarlet tanagers. I didn't realize the female was there until she flew. Which explained his strange behavior. She really blended into the tree as the leaves were coming out.

Baltimore oriloes

My backyard has been full of color this last week. A walk around the point yielded over 30 baltimore orioles. 13 or so have come to my backyard daily. The first 3 photos have an oriole of a very pretty mottled pattern and color.

A few photos from a trip today to Algonquin with Murray of

We saw some beautiful purple finches in the trees by the visitor's center, the young bull moose running across the road and a couple people in a canoe having a nice quiet ride down the river.Although it did rain on & off on us, we had a grand time. Other things we saw were yellow warblers, black throated blue warblers, blue jays, ruffed grouse, crows, ravens, turkey vultures & chickadees, pileated woodpecker. Loons, ring necked ducks, mallards and common mergansers.A ground hog and of coarse the moose. Heard ovenbirds, and yellow bellied sapsuckers.

My daughter Karen in the foreground,( thinking she was out of the way) Gottch ya. And the ever so popular look for my latetest trips to Algonquin. Walking in the rain with umbrellas. Gotta love it!!
