l have been a part of a few successful wildlife rescues and educate people on wildlife and environmental issues. We have helped in issues to save wetlands, woodlands etc.to save the precious life within. It is well worth the effort. We can all learn to live and work together. Education is the key. In 2011 I won an education award from Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority for the work and photography I do. Habitat is fast disappearing and with it, many species are also declining in numbers. So many species can actually tell us the health of our environment and alert us to problems we need to know about. They all need to be protected.

Endangered Piping Plovers,Wasaga Beach,June 12/09

Hiding under Mom. Any time there was any sign of danger,"Eg,"gulls flying over,Mom would call the chicks and put them under the safety of her wings.
A rarity,all 4 chicks together.
Chicks under Mom.
On the run.
l was one of the very lucky plover guardians this year. this wee one is from the first nest and is only 2 days old. A little bundle of fluff (very active fluff) !

August,2/09

A nest that has been dug right up to. Exposing the nest. l hope they had gone before it was dug out. They seem to have a very long tunnel to the actual nest. But the young disappear and hide when people are around. Possibly giving the impression they are gone. A stop work order on this soil pile should have been done. Maybe keeping it closer to the main building instead of quite the distance away. Possibly keeping the birds away from the human activity. It is so sad.

August,7/09 Update.
l called the place were this soil was and the manager didn't realize these nests were there in the main pile of soil. So she assured me the workers would all be briefed on this and the young would be left along to fledge. Which won't be long. She was very good about it. So l don't know how many may have been lost, but these will be spared.
Bank swallows almost ready to fledge.
These bay bank swallows were in a garden centers soil pile. l think many have been wiped out from what l can see. These are almost ready to fly.
This cute ground hog was enjoying the day, but to close to the road for my liking. Don't see many of these cute things any more with development the way it is going. l myself really enjoy seeing a ground hog at the side of the road or in a field. So cute,so innocent!!

Flowers n bugs August/09

Looks like this guy has quite the web built around this plant. He then did a spiderman trick and went down to the leaves below.
Something very magical about a spider web. A true work of art. This spider in its web were sparkling in the sunlit woods.
Bug on Queen Anne's Lace.
Foxgloves and moon glow.
Moon glow, very fragrant and stays open at night for the moths. Beautiful.

August,3/09 Holland River

This just reminded me of the fall migration. The sun going down and the huge flocks of birds everywhere settling into the wetlands for the night. The sounds were incredible. And the sun amazing.
Another shot from the river.
The one and only osprey we saw hovering to catch some dinner. He ended up getting caught up in the swarm of birds and never did get a catch!
One side the setting sun. The other the rising moon. Caught a few birds flying past the moon. l missed the larger flock because l was looking in the other direction. l guess you can't have it all.
Sun setting before the warm look set in.
